Sales Tax on Shipping: When Does it Apply?

Shipping is not taxed in Nevada, but handling is. Stating the shipping cost separately on the invoice affects its taxability in Alabama, Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wyoming. In Maryland, the shipping charge becomes taxable when it’s combined with handling.

Sales and Use Tax Updates from February

In another possibly trendsetting development, Maryland has greenlighted the country’s first tax on digital advertisements sold by companies such as Facebook, Google and Amazon. Maryland has also extended time free of interest and penalties to file sales and use tax returns due between Jan. 20 and April 14 to April 15, 2021.
